I need to exchange my implant. Can I upsize to tighten up loose skin?

Aging sucks.  I see many women who did an original breast augmentation when they were in their 20s.  It looked great.  All was good.  And then time passed… kids… breastfeeding… or just gravity.  And they come to me, a little droopy and want things to be lifted and tighter again.

What can you do?

General rule of thumb with the breast: the more volume,  the more lift you will get.

So can we just upsize the implant an little and get that tight, lifted perky breast of our 20s?  No.  Putting an implant in alone may not correct what you have.  For some, as the weight of the implant goes up, the skin stretches, so a bigger implant does not lift.  In this case you would just be larger with the same droop.

If your breast skin droops below the underwire level,  you likely need a lift with breast tissue rearrangement and skin tightening.

I have seen women who refused a lift, and only would do a breast implant.  The issues:

In the end, it can be a little dangerous and short lived to chase loose skin with increasing implant size.  If you want to go larger, put in a larger implant.  If you have a minor issue put in a slightly larger implant. In general though, I think you should think about volume as the most important parameter.  Being bigger than you want is something you can’t hide.  You will dress and act differently.  So if you like your size, and you are a little droopy, my girlfriend’s advice to you is to do a lift and keep the size you like.
