Fat grafting improves scars. Journal time!

Posted on June 7, 2022

I am a fan of fat grafting. (If you don’t know this, ready my millions of blogs on the subject). The improvement it makes in skin is real and proven with histologic biopsies–I see it for indented scars, acne scars and pitting, large pore size, fine wrinkles, deeper wrinkles like the lines around the mouth and in the neck.

This was an abstract in the latest issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, April 2022. “Autologous Lipofilling Improves Clinical Outcome in Patients with Symptomatic Dermal Scars Through Induction of a ProRegenerative Immune Response.”

What?

This is looking at fat grafting into scars and HOW it improves the scar. This study was a prospective study in 27 patients with symptomatic scars. They had 2 treatments, 3 months apart to do fat grafting. The scars were measured with a patient and observer scar assessment. Biopsies were taken before and after treatment to assess what was occurring at a cellular level.

Findings?

My thoughts?

It works. I know it works. I love to see fat grafting reaffirmed over and over again with histology and true science to show it works. Why don’t more people sing fat grafting praise? There is no million dollar company behind fat grafting with slick ad campaigns. It is low tech. There is nothing to “sell”. BUT FAT GRAFTING TRULY WORKS.

Acne pitting? An indented scar on your thigh or abdomen from an old injury? Deep wrinkles around the mouth or in the neck?

FAT IS LIQUID GOLD.
